Temporary Impacts on Supply Security and
Controlled Load -- Counties Power Area
Transpower, the owner of New Zealand's Natonal Grid, is presently working on a major upgrade to their Bombay point of
supply to the Countes Power area to improve the security of electricity supply. This work includes the replacement and
upgrade of 110kV equipment.
While Transpower undertakes this work, there will be periods when there will be reduced electricity supply security and
load constraints in place for supply to the eastern parts of the Countes Power area.
What's the risk?
Normally, Transpower's supply to our system is such that a failure of any one piece of equipment will not cause an outage
for consumers. However, at certain tmes when this work is taking place (see below), the level of back-up for the system
will be reduced. This means that any transmission equipment failures are more likely to cause an outage that could afect
Countes Power customers. We will be required to manage load during those periods by interruptng supply to controllable
load; this may include supply to hot water cylinders, water pumps and some commercial supplies on controlled tarifs. It
may also in the worst case scenario include total loss of power for short periods.
While the increased chance of outages over these periods is low, Countes Power wanted to make you aware of this risk.
What contingency plans are in place?
Both Transpower and CountesPowerhavecontngency plans in place in the unlikely event that an outage occurs.
Transpower has endeavoured to plan the work when the demand is lower during summer months to lower the risk.
The confrmed inital work periods we have received from Transpower are:
• Thursday 19th January to Friday 20th January 2012
7.00am to 6.00pm each day
• We may interrupt supply to controllable loads during this period.
Future work periods will be confrmed in advance and are shown in the table.
Who can you contact?
If you have questons about this work or have any other concerns,
please contact our Customer Care Team on 0800 100 202.
